Best laptop top I have ever seen...Period! Jul 29, 2010
By J. C. Smith I've had this laptop for 3 weeks now. I haven't even had time to really push it to it's potential because it has so much to offer. Don't know about any wireless malfunctioning. Mine works just fine anywhere I go, in an N or G WIFI environment. I use it at home using my DOCSIS 3 cable internet with gigabit wired network or WIFI N class whenever I want to move to an unwired room, and I have not had a problem at all. The HDMI 1080P HD output using the onboard blueray is simply fantastic when hooked up to my LED flatscreen TV. Simply put, this laptop is flawless. Just a beautiful machine, with a gorgeous screen, big sound and a great useable keyboard. You will not be disappointed buying this laptop. I am certainly very satisfied.

Wonderful But (slightly) Flawed Aug 19, 2010
By Carl This machine is very nice for the power-user. The design is tight, the manufacturing is clean (see exception below) and the computer performs very well under a variety of tasks.
Pros: Fast CPU Fast GPU Dual HDD capable--(See exception) Good color and contrast
Cons: DDR3 for the ATI 5850 is much slower than GDDR5 in other computers Glare from the screen is very obnoxious in a lighted room Narrow vertical viewing angle Preloaded with a lot of bloatware--I recommend a clean installation of Windows 7 for best performance Second HDD bay cover will NOT physically close over a standard 2.5" notebook drive.
I called Amazon and while they were friendly they were unable to assist with the expansion bay cover issue--the first photo of this product shows a protruding HDD bay cover just to the left and under the trackpad. The computer I received has a bay cover that is flush with the rest of the chassis, thus it does not close completely over the second HDD that I added.
I called Acer support, they were friendly, looked up my SN and then gave me a number to their parts dept. Their parts dept. does not carry the bay cover yet and the CSR I spoke with said she had no way of determining when the correct cover would be available.
If you don't plan to upgrade the machine then this is not an issue and you should be fairly happy with the computer. It is fast (especially after throwing in a SSD to boot from) and the keyboard is nice to type on. The trackpad has some interesting features in the settings dialog and you can run any type of application on the machine at decent speeds.
Update 9/5/10:
Amazon's customer service is simply outstanding. I'm updating my review to bring the score up to four stars for this purchase after dealing with several friendly CSRs concerning the hard drive cover issue. Note that while the correct part is currently unavailable, Amazon staff did everything in their power to see that I was satisfied with my purchase. Unfortunately as of this update Acer still does not carry the correct replacement part, but the computer is wonderful despite that flaw and having a solid company backing my purchase has improved my experience as a customer.
It's been said in other reviews but it's worth repeating--you're getting a whole lot of machine for the money with this model. I'm running Rhino 4 with 4xFSAA forced on via ATI Control Panel and seeing very respectable framerates while panning on high polycount models. The system is very responsive while multitasking and has thus far been stable. My main workload includes the aforementioned Rhino 4, CS3 Design Standard, RealFlight G4.5 Flight Sim, entertainment via the Blu-ray player (amazing quality with good headphones on) and general web use. I also use an assortment of aeronautical engineering programs that peg out the Turbo feature of the i7 CPU while crunching numbers; it regularly clocks over 2.59Ghz on cores 3 & 4 during this type of dual-threaded workload. Great platform for a budget-minded DTR or mobile workstation.

Great buy. BIG screen. What's up with the wireless? Oct 05, 2010
By Gregory Schwartzkopf I've owned this laptop for a few months now and it's proven to be a reliable, well built machine.
Power management works well, it doesn't overheat (which is a common problem with laptops of this size and power) and it has been very stable since I bought it. It also plays blu-ray and high def video flawlessly.
There is some software pre-installed, but compared to other vendors out there, Acer is actually very good about not loading up the machine with excessive bloatware. I am using the default windows 7 install and it works very well. I did remove a few packages but all-in-all not too terrible.
I would have given it 5 stars except I also experienced the wireless problem that everyone has described. It was very apparent after only about an hour of use that the wireless connection was dropping consistently. Like others, I tried bios upgrades as well as driver updates, however I had no luck. Fortunately I was able to find a cheap fix. I bought the Intel WiFi Link 6200 (622AN.HMWWB) Half Height PCI Express Mini Card for $21 and replaced the wireless card in the laptop. All features still work (wireless button on the front, etc) but now wireless is as stable as it should be.
It is a shame that Acer clearly knows about this issue, yet they fail to address it. I would suggest that Amazon include this card as part of the purchase so customers don't have to replace an inferior component in this laptop on their own. Overall I'm satisfied with my purchase, however disappointed that I had to go to special lengths to get something as basic and ubiquitous as wireless working properly. Poor quality assurance on Acer's part.

The Acer 8943G is a winner! Sep 19, 2010
By digitech I shopped around for a long time to find a laptop that could deliver the horsepower to do video editing outside the studio. The 8943 works great! After seeing some of the other reviews here, I was suprised to see issues with the wireless interface. I have had no problems at all maintaining a wireless connection for several hours without any dropouts. I'm running Adobe Creative Suite 5, which requires a lot of muscle to do Hi-Def video editing, and the Acer has delivered without any stuttering during playback. I've also added a second hard drive for video storage and can stream video through the 1394 Firewire port from the Panasonic HPX170 P2 camera in full HD without missing a frame. The Acer was a much cheaper option than buying two more 64GB P2 memory cards for the camera. I'm not a gamer, but for a video capture and editing workstation this laptop would be hard to beat. This is my second Acer laptop and I have had no problems with either product. I highly recommend this laptop.

Very well but with 3 problems Sep 03, 2010
By L. J. Briceno I purchased the laptop last july and I am very pleased with it, but I have experienced three problems:
a) The WIFI disconnects itself after a period of time and it is necessary to reinitiate the computer or put it in hibernation mode. This also happens if the computer needs to shutdown in order to do the Windows Update. And yes, I already downloaded the latest wifi drivers from Acer.
b) I had to purchase a Blu-ray disk player in order to see all the features the disk offer. Yes, the system comes with sort of a plug-in to Windows Media Center, but it is very very basic and my complaint is that when I insert a disk, the player panel blocks the disk features.
c) The technical support is not very good. I leave a ticket (because of the WIFI problems) and I am still waiting yet to be answered. In comparison and by my own experience is that Dell's tech support is 100 times better.
