Keep in mind this is a generic product (not made by apple). There may be many sellers claiming to sell the exact same item ... which is kind of true but kind of not, here is what I mean. They will claim they all sell a cable that looks like the one in the picture. The question is what circuit design did they use inside the cable. These video cables need a small circuit to work properly. If they are not build the cable correctly then the cable will not work properly. This is why you get reviews that seem to conflict as I am sure they purchased from different sellers, therefor each received a slightly different variation of cable. In short when leaving a review it is helpfull to mention who the cable was purchased from.
Now on to the review:
I purchased this cable from 'BrainyDeal', the cable worked ok on my iphone 4, ipod touch 3gen, and iphone 3GS. My only complaint is an warning will pop up when the cable is plugged in saying "this accessory is not optimized for this iphone" ... but the cable still worked.
More about the warning: The fix is fairly simple to implement to prevent the warning pop up, but I am guessing that 'BrainyDeal' doesn't have the know how or ability to fix the warning as I am sure they are just buying a cable off the shelf from a foreign manufacture ... if they did understand the product then the warning would have been fixed ;)

I bought this in the hope that it would work with an iPad. It works like a charm to play movies or to use Netflix or YouTube.
It won't work to display your general iPad so don't try. Make sure you plug it in before you start Netflix or the movie or it won't work.

I bought this cable for my husband and his Ipod touch he got for christmas. It works great. I tried it on my Iphone 3GS and it works for it also. So I just ordered one for myself. Thanks

I don't know what went wrong with earlier reviwer but I did order this item and it worked with my iphone 4. I connect my iphone 4 with my car DVD player and my kids love watching netflix on the road.

This ad say that the product is compatable with an ipad but when I got it the box it comes in says that it is only compatable with an ipod and iphone. When I connect it up to either my ipad or my ipod touch it does nothing whatsoever to any of my TVs. There is no display of anything. I have connected it to my brand new Samsung, my less than a year old Visio and my Poineer plasma. No sound no video. I cannot see my photos, access my music or see youtube or Netflix video. This product does nothing it says it will do and I am completely dissatisfied with it. I have just been robbed of my money.
