Great all around machine Oct 24, 2010
By musiclover I bought this item a few weeks ago. Fabulous machine. The Phenom II six-core chip really makes it scream. The trade-off against the Intel chip on the comparable model 470 machine is that you have a lower cache size vs. the Phenom's higher number of cores (six with AMD to four for Intel), but if you use a lot of multi-threaded applications, it's a worthwhile trade. Photoshop renders are as fast as I've ever seen them, and games can go with as high of a frame rate as you like. Multi-screen support is built in and simple to set up.
Upgrading is easy. My machine now has a blu-ray writer, 3 TB of drive and 16 GB of memory. Took all of half an hour to install everything on my own and not a compatibility issue in sight.
Some nice small things like the CF card not having to be slotted so deep that you need a pair of pliers to pull it out, or the top mounted USB ports. Little touches that make things nice.
My single issue is using the display port, which I have yet to be able to do, but that's a minor quibble and probably just a driver update issue.
Overall a great machine for a good price. Highly recommended.

Great Computer -- Very Pleased Dec 07, 2010
By D. Turley I am very pleased with the HPE-470f. Not sure about the earlier post about 32-bit as mine was exactly as expected with the 64-bit, 8G of RAM, 1.5TB hard drive, etc, etc. Everything as ordered and listed on Amazon -- the H-P site indicated that it included a eSATA card, but I was pretty sure that this was wrong (and it was). I have had the computer for one week now and everything is operating exactly as expected. Very fast processor.
After checking out the computer and getting all of the Windows 7 updates, it was time to start modifying the new machine with the hardware and software that I wanted to add. I now have the OEM 1.5TB drive, a new 2TB drive, and my old 500G drive (installed in the open external slot below the DVD). Already had the SATA cables and the power connectors were there. Also installed the DVD from my old computer as a 2nd DVD drive -- SATA is connected, but I am awaiting the arrival of a short extension ATA power cable in order to get power to it from the open power cable/slot -- should be easy to do. For all of this I found the Manuals/info downloads on the H-P website to be very useful, particularly the "Upgrading and Servicing Guide" with the good info and pictures on how to do all of the installations. I also installed the eSATA card that I have so that my external 1TB drive could be connected via eSATA vs USB. When I install the power cable I may also install my FAX modem card in the one remaining open slot.
I had all of my files backed-up on the external drive, but since my old computer would old come up in SAFE MODE, I could not use the Easy Transfer (will not work from SAFE MODE). I could have copied from the external drive, but once I installed my old 500G drive, I just copied my data files from it to the new drive in the computer. Still have that data there on that drive just in case I need it -- I will eventually reformat that drive and use it exclusively for music I believe. Upon installation of all of the above hardware the computer searched and found the necessary drivers without me having to insert any discs -- very nice.
As for software. I had Office 2003 Student and since 2010 Student does not include OUTLOOK, which I must have, I uninstalled the trail Office 2010, then loaded 2003 so that I would have the capabilities that I need. I like 2003 WORD, etc better than the new versions anyway. I do have Publisher 2007, so I installed it separately. All is fine! I activated the Norton Internet Security 2011, and since I still have several months left on my old Norton I contact Norton Customer Service and they rolled my time remaining in with the 60 days trial -- very nice. I am also now using "backup4all" for my back-up -- I like its capabilities to do "mirror" back-ups vs compressed (can do compressed also), and especially the capability to back-up to the internal drive, and then immediately to my external drive (which I can use to access files when I travel or want to have a back-up away from the house/computer).
Since I already had Win 7 64-bit on my old computer, most of my programs worked fine when I installed them. I did have a few old versions of programs and simply upgraded a couple of them to have the most current version (not too expensive to do the upgrades).
For the capabilities of this machine this is a very good price and I am very pleased. My old wireless keyboard/mouse were anchient, so I'll probably get a new wireless in the future -- for now just using the wired ones which came with the machine.

Very happy with this machine Nov 20, 2010
By Robert & Nancy I have owned this machine for 1 month now and I havent had any problems. Very fast machine, I upgraded from a dual core which couldnt play todays games even after adding a decent video card. This does and then some. paired with a samsung 27" syncmaster p2770 monitor, I'm more than happy every time I sit down at this machine. Yes photoshop and any other program you throw at this machine will work very well. Runs very smooth and very quiet. Games play very well. Couldn't be happier.

Great...but Dec 23, 2010
By Armando The computer is almost everything that I had hoped for...however, the blue ray player/dvd burner did not operate when I tried to use it run a disc I had. The computer did not even recognize the player. Luckily, HP has a great online support site, and with the pictures provided on the site, I was able to walk through the problem, and find that the data cable had not been connected to the drive. I am not a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I felt terrific when I put the computer back together, and it worked the way it should have out of the box. I am more than a little disappointed in the quality control at HP, in that they shipped a computer that had not been fully tested. I would have rated this computer 5-stars except for this quality issue. I hope I don't encounter something similar as I continue to use my new computer.

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-470f Dec 01, 2010
By G. Richard Helme
"GRH"
Computer is great. My only complaint is that it came with 8 Gigs of memory with only MS X-86 (32 bit) Windows 7 which only recongnizes 3.8 Gig of memory. It should of shipped with Windows 7 X64 operating software so that the full 8 gig of memory would be recongnized.
