| | Description | Digital voice recorders provide great solutions for voice recognition applications, however background noise will sometimes cause a problem. The ME-12 plugs into your digital recorder's 3.5mm microphone jack for uni-directional recording in high-noise environments. It will cut down on much of the background noise and result in a more accurate transcription. Specifications: Microphone length: 1 inch inch Cord length: No cord Plug: 3.5mm Frequency Response: 200 ? 5,000 Hz Directivity: Uni-directional Mike Sensitivity: -68db Output Impedance: 1.4 kW Color: Black foam cover over microphone Weight: 3.5 grams | |

Quick test Jan 24, 2006
By Ungenious I bought a couple of microphones looking to replace my Plantronics .Audio desktop microphone. Of them were the Koss M-18, Logitech USB Desktop, and this one.
This Olympus was the cheapest of the 3. It's sensitivity is a little low. This helps with canceling a lot of background noise & makes sense as the primary purpose of this mic was usage with digital recorders. However, any dictation where the source is further than 10 inches may not record clearly.
I was using the mic with my PC audio card so results may vary when using it with the suggested Olympus recorders.

Good mic at a great price Jan 03, 2007

Better for interviews than the built-in mic on Olympus voice recorders. I have the WS-320M recorder. The ME-12 mic is not as sensitive as the built-in, though. The ME-12 is at its best when dictating, and not as good when recording a lecture from far away.
Works great with an extension cable, and is especially good for recording live interviews. You can move the mic where you want it depending on who's speaking.

Better off without mic Feb 20, 2006

I married this mic to the Olympus WS-200S Digital Voice Recorder, which by the way plays in stereo. When attaching the mic there was a significant loss of volume, as the system only used one channel rather than stereo. The resulting loss of volume requiered the volume to be turned up during playback increasing backround noise levels. I use this device to record class lectures at the college level. Without the mic I was able to hear student questions from the back clearly. With the mic installed, I could no longer make out all the questions from the high volume related static.

This does what it's supposed to do Nov 03, 2006

This little microphone works well for me. I've owned it since August and now it's November 3. I use it with my Olympus WS-100 to take notes which I then save to my computer and import it into Dragon Naturally Speaking version 9 Preferred which then produces a Microsoft Word document. I speak into the microphone from about 2 inches away and am really careful with my diction and pronunciation because there is just a little bit of distortion if you over drive it. But with a little work in practice it does what it's supposed to do. Oh, one side note if you do import this into Dragon be aware you will have to make corrections. Sometimes a lot of them but that's based on how you speak. Or maybe that's based on how I speak that's been my experience anyway. But that's not the fault of the microphone.

a good accessory Jan 27, 2007
By mr no it all I have an Olympus digital recorder WS-320M. While the built in condensor mike is OK (records dual track stereo), you do have a problem with ambient noise. This little plug in does eliminate a lot of the background noise, which makes dictation or simple voice recording much easier. It is the best option if your purpose is for voice recording.
Would not recommend it for music.
Also price should not exceed $15.00.
