Great little projector Oct 30, 2008
By T.M. Tolkien I just tried out this EP728 in a multi-purpose hall which holds about 120 persons and has lots of windows. I closed a few of the blinds but left plenty of ambient light in the room to see how bright the movie would be. The picture was great on default settings both in sharpness and brilliance. I was very pleased with the ease of plugging this unit into a DVD home theater system using a S-video connection. I was thinking of getting a DVI - HDMI connector, but decided after viewing the movie that it wasn't necessary. A great machine at a reasonable price. I was able to get it when a sale was going on for $800.00.

Two Thumbs Up for Optoma's EP728 Nov 20, 2010
By JC67 Electrical Engineer I've been giving presentations for over 20years now and I can honestly tell you that this product hits the sweetspot with regard to price and value. 2700 lumens is bright enough for most any occasion whether it be in a small office or large hotel conference room. I've been an independent consultant for the last four years and typically give 15-20 presentations per month. Although the EP728 is a highly portable unit at only 4.4lbs and is extremely easy to set up, it's the low noise level (about 30-31 decibels) that I find the most useful aspect of this projector. I've used projectors that sound like a jet engine when next to you and it's distracting. This project is so quiet that you can easily speak over it and therefore allows your audience to focus on what you're showing and what your saying. Two thumbs up!

Defective Product Jul 12, 2011
By Slacker I own a sports bar and purchased 7 of these projectors. 4 out of the 7 have all had the exact same problem where white dots slowly begin showing up on the screen until eventually the entire picture is just solid white. Unfortunately for us 3 out of 4 were purchased slightly used and were out of warranty.
Forget about repair. Optoma's service center charges $700 to repair the unit which is more than purchasing a new one. This also
In every case the projector worked fine for 3-6 months before the problem began.
This is an obvious defect in this model. Other than that the projector's picture was excellent, in fact it is the nicest picture of any projector we have owned. I suggest that you do not purchase this unit at all.
Bright! May 12, 2009
By Ask Bjørn Hansen We got this for our office for the occasional presentation or meeting where we need a projector.
As other reviewers have said, the button layout is completely insane. It looks pretty, but while leaning over a table in a semi dark room to toggle something you'll hit the wrong button. Very frustrating. With all our laptop screens being widescreen, I regret not getting the otherwise similar widescreen version of the projector, but I can't fault the projector for that! :-)
I like that it has a DVI connector, making connecting our MacBook Pros a little smoother. (There's also a VGA connector for your PC using associates).
On the upside it's reasonably small and very bright; we haven't had any trouble seeing the picture even without a proper screen and with daylight coming in the windows.
