An Unknown Gem Aug 07, 2010
By Vincent DeSimone
"DeSimone8"
First of all, let me say that it took a lot of research to find this TV but I'm glad I made the effort. I have a 20 year-old AV center in my living room made of real wood and I won't part with it for anything. Unfortunately, it's age means that the bay for the TV is square and pretty small by today's standards. The best that could fit in it before was a Magnavox 25" CRT weighing over 60 lbs. In my research, I found that most 26" HDTV s barely fit. I wanted a Sony Bravia 26" to match my Sony Bravia-aware receiver but the price was too high, they only offered a 22" in that size range, and it was only 720p. Their loss. Then, I discovered this unit from ViewSonic. They call it a 27" and trust me, unlike other manufacturers, it really is a full 27". Best of all, it's 1080p capable, weights only 19 lbs., and the thin left and right borders meant that it fit in my bay with an inch on both sides to spare! Plus, that extra inch in screen size translates into a noticeably larger viewing area. It arrived via UPS in the same box that it would be found if you bought it in a store. That's fine for store-bought, but it's pretty flimsy for a shipment delivery. The plastic handle was broken and the box was slightly damaged on one edge. I'm amazed that the TV was OK. The picture is excellent and just a little less in quality that the big-name brands. However, the sound is a little weak, even in stereo mode. That won't matter to me since it is attached to my surround sound system. There are _lots_ of connections in the back meaning that you can turn this TV into the core of a media center without the need of a surround sound system to pull everything together. Pluses: Great picture, excellent price, easy setup, lots of connection options, great for small spaces or a bedroom. Minuses: Average sound.

Not that great, although the price is good for the specs. Dec 26, 2010
By Alex Gough I ended up exchanging this TV once, and then returning the second one as well. This is because of two reasons, one being more important. The more important issue I have with this TV is the annoying amount of backlight bleeding that is emitted around the edge of the display. This makes viewing any movie or TV show with a letterbox almost unbearable. Because the letterbox is black, the backlight bleeding is much more noticeable and therefore the black's are more gray/blue. Another bad feature of this TV is the viewing angle. Unless you are looking at it straight on, you are going to have a problem viewing it. Especially from a lower angle. But one thing I did like about it was the fact that is was 1080P and only 27", that is great pixel density. When I hooked up my Xbox, the quality was excellent. But the cons outweighed the pros on this one. Now I have bought the LG 26LD350 26-Inch 720p 60 Hz LCD HDTV and I'm in love. It is a great 26" TV for my bedroom. Of course now, they have the 26" LED's that I would go for.

A+++ Jul 19, 2010
By Larry Blakely This little HDTV is incredible. The picture quality is as good as larger quality HDTVs like the Mitsubishi and high end Sony's. You won't make a mistake with this HDTV it's picture performance is out of this world, at a very friendly price.

Good quality HDTV Dec 28, 2010
By N. Goering Awesome picture, amazing sound from the small speakers (in a small bedroom, probably not so much for larger rooms). The on screen menu has a good layout and is easy to understand. I bought Viewsonic for their good quality of PC monitors. I wanted to make sure I bought a good brand set, since my mother is the one who uses it.
Although a little pricer than the Vizios, AOCs, Haiers, etc., I believe that the build quality makes it a good alternative for those who want a set that lasts over the long haul.

ViewSonic VT2730 27-Inch 1920x1080 LCD Flat-Panel HDTV Sep 20, 2011
By QuadFather After much searching I finally decided to go with the ViewSonic VT2730 for my "man cave". I have had very good luck with their monitors for my desktops in the past and figured that the same quality would be extended to their HDTV's, I was right. The picture is great and the native 1080p resolution is a great thing to have. The sound is also very good, admittedly the default sound settings are very "tinny" but all I had to do was customize it and the sound improved to a very acceptable quality. My old TV had problems with some channels volume coming in way too low even at full blast but this HDTV handles that low volume channel perfectly well, what a relief. The setup menu is user friendly and I had no problems setting up the unit with little need to use the owners manual. The only issue I have is that I don't get closed captioning while using the HDMI cable (yes it is in the owners manual that this limitation exists). I am not sure if it is a limitation while using the HDMI cable or not but I find it very annoying. Many times I mute the sound while doing something else and the ability to read the closed captioning while the HDTV is muted is something I miss. I would prefer to not have to use the component in but I may have to in order to get this functionality. Hopefully the picture quality is the same if I do decide to go that route.
Don't be afraid to get this HDTV just don't expect it to have the same sound quality as a larger 40+ screen size HDTV, it's made for smaller rooms like a bedroom or a dorm room, definitely not a big living room though, you could do so as long as you don't sit too far away from the unit.
