Great buy at a great price Nov 22, 2010
By R.D. Searle I've owned a Yamaha RX-V2095 for the past 12 years. Weighing in at 45 lbs it's an understatement that it has some power. The only thing it lacked was HDMI capability, which is why I upgraded to the RX-A700. The sound fields are more precise with having the 7.1 surround. Memo to those of you upgrading, this unit has a built in secondary amp for zone 2 (too cool). But be aware you can only play analog signals through zone 2, so be sure to hook up the analog cables along with all the HDMI ones. That was fun figuring out! The YPAO feature is awesome. It's a tiny microphone that plugs into the front of the amp and it automatically sets the level of your speakers based on where they are placed. The process takes about 3 minutes and is very high tech. Adjusting the levels yourself is fun with the cool interactive menu's in this new model. The remote seems too simple when you first start using it, but when you figure out the ease and user friendly menu system built in, it makes you even more satisfied with the product. The models above this one are the A800, 1000 and 3000. The only difference is a little more power and more [outdated] hookups like s-video and analogs.
Another great feature is the 12 pin hookup for the optional Ipod cradle specifically made for this model. The cradle is about 90 bucks (yds-12) and has great on screen capability with up to date ipods (3rd gen I-touch). You can even watch the digital movies on your you TV with this thing.
All in all, this is a great buy. I will miss my old receiver, but this one is a no brainer, especially for Yamaha enthusiasts. Hope this helps.

need firmware update out of the box Dec 07, 2010

Real easy to set up if you have hdmi. Sounds great after using the mic. check it with my slp meter and it was right on, didnt have to tweak it. Great price when newegg gave an ipod touch 4th gen. with it how can you wrong with that. shipped fast. The on screen GUI is great easy to use.
Cons: I would have gave this unit 5 stars if it was shipped with updated firmware. It had 1.05 installed on the unit. With that on it, it would not pass the 3D signal through the unit. You would think that this unit as advertised would be able to send a 3D signal right out of the box but it won't. You have to go to Yamaha and down load the new firmware then burn it to a cd (do not use windows media center it will burn the cd but the receiver will not install the firmware at the end) use iTunes or another software to burn the cd. Then after that, you will have to find a dvd player or a cd player that will play the wave file that does not have a internal filters that degrades the file to unusable. I had to use 4 different players before I got one that worked. It was a borrowed player from a friend ( a OPPO dvd player high end) the file is 14 min. 11 sec after that it worked fine. But it came with a free Ipod so the extra hoops I had to jump through was worth it.
Other Thoughts: If your lucky you will get one with the correct firmware. But if you dont good luck in updating it. It took me 4 days to do it. Even though its only a 20 min. process.

Amazing receiver for the cost. Oct 15, 2010
By Orbit I purchased this receiver as a pre amplifier to replace my older Lexicon MC-1. I am impressed by its 7.2 channels pre-out quality. The YPAO sound optimization is flawless. The Yamaha RX-A700 is an amazing receiver for the cost. Highly recommended!

Great receiver for the price Aug 29, 2011
By Boris After reading reviews and doing some research I finally settled on the Yamaha RX-V667 as my receiver of choice. I noticed that Amazon had the RX-A700, which is esentially the same device as the RX-V667 just with better build quality and better warranty, for about $30 cheaper so purchasing the RX-A700 was a no brainer. Setup and speaker calibration was a breeze, I am using this receiver to drive polk speakers in a 5.1 setup (BIC F12 sub) using the back surround connections to bi-amp my front tower speakers. Have to say everything sounds great so far...still breaking in my speakers but sound quality is good as is. Currently not using zone 2 so I can't speak to other reviewers issues regarding this. Receiver came installed with the latest firmware version out of the box so no issues there either. All in all very happy with my purchase so far.

AMAZING! Feb 04, 2011

I replaced an older Onkyo receiver with this Yamaha and I couldn't be more pleased. I'm using all HDMI connections with a mishmash of speakers, all high quality. Normally you wouldn't think the sound would match up with speakers from different manufacturers, but this amazing receiver has done an AMAZING job at matching them up and pushing out incredible sound. I'm even using my TV's sound bar as my center channel and it's matched it up nicely with everything else! (Mitsubishi 82838 with 16 speaker sound bar)
To obtain this great sound I used the receiver's YPAO system and it was the simplest speaker setup I've ever done, and with spot on settings. You cannot go wrong with this receiver.......get one!
