5Easy way to replace broken glass  Mar 07, 2010 By B. Corrion
Replacing my broken glass was a breeze with this kit. Any debating between this and the cheaper glass-only kits should stop hesitating and put out the extra money. Your spending will be rewarded with reduced effort, pain and suffering.

After breaking the glass on my 3Gs, I was shocked at the sticker price of Apple's repair. I found a variety of kits online to replace just the glass and ordered a pricey one, understanding it came with the digitizer. I was wrong, and in forging ahead with the repair I botched it. Using hot air guns to remove the digitizer from the old glass warped the plastic and my work ripped the rubber gasket off of the frame. The replacement glass was unsatisfactory as well, and in piecing everything back together I punctured a ribbon cable which deactivated 10% of my touch screen. What a failure.

I searched some more and found this seller on Amazon as the most affordable way to get a replacement glass with the digitizer already attached. This significantly reduces the skill and effort required to replace broken glass if you have a fully functional LCD. Remove eight screws, three ribbon cables, and carefully separate your LCD from the side rails before reversing the order and reassembling. PLEASE use GOOD guides on the web as a basis for your work.

My biggest challenge was keeping dust out of the space between the digitizer and the screen. It took four attempts at seating the screen before I was dust free and satisfied, so be patient. The cloth supplied in the kit was less useful than another microfiber cloth I already use for my eyeglasses as the kit cloth added dust as it removed others.

Nonetheless I am completely satisfied with the result so far, and have a beautiful screen with a fully functional digitizer.

4No proximity sensor  Jan 02, 2011 By Prabhat Kumar Gupta
This is good product but it doesn't have proximity sensor. Proximity sensor is what make the screen off when we make phone call. This is important because without proximity sensor when call me made, touchcreen remains active and you may *press* mute button inadvertently.

1Shipped wrong product  Jun 01, 2010 By Crista Vessello
This company was to be sending me the 3gs screen as the item is labeled as on amazon. When I recieved the product it was for the regular 3g. When I requested a refund or the correct product the company informed me they don't offer it Goethe 3gs (even though that's what they listed it on amazon as). Once shipping it back I did get a refund but was not refunded for ANY of the shipping costs, only the product itself. Very disappointed with my experience with this company.

4If you've cracked the glass on your iPhone 3GS, THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED.  Feb 12, 2011 By R. K. Smith
I cracked the glass on my iPhone 3GS something fierce -- it was like looking through a spiderweb. Not wanting to pay $125 for Apple to replace the screen and as I was willing to void my phone's warranty (I only have less than a year left on my contract), I rolled the dice. On the bright side, the kit comes quickly in the mail. On the down side, the kit comes with no instructions and way more parts than you need, leading to a little confusion.

This is exactly the piece that you need for the easiest replacement. This screen comes with the *digitizer already attached*, so the whole process takes about 5 minutes. The thing you'll be worried about the most is losing the almost-invisible screws. No heat guns, funny 3M adhesive cut-outs, or suction cups required. I highly recommend watching some YouTube videos on how to take the phone apart (the one that was 7:39 by directfix.com was pretty helpful, although you only need the first 3:13).

Here's how I did it -- naturally, proceed at your own risk -- this DOES VOID YOUR WARRANTY:
Remove the SIM card, and remove the two (long) screws at the bottom near the main connector with the (magnetic) Philips screwdriver provided in the kit. Pry the screen away from the phone backing at the bottom of the phone, using the flathead screwdriver provided in the kit rather than the flimsy and dull 'case-opening' tools. Be gentle as there are still 3 points of connection up at the top -- they're labeled 1, 2, and 3. Remove them in that order -- pop off 1 and then 2, and then flip up the white tab that's holding the ribbon cable (3) in place, pulling it out. Proceed to remove the LCD display from the top screen assembly, by removing the 5 screws holding it in (3 on one side, 2 on the other). Remove one more screw at the top right-hand corner of the assembly, and then *gently* pop out the LCD using the flathead screwdriver. Avoid getting fingerprints everywhere. Before inserting the LCD into the new screen assembly, be sure to remove the plastic protector that's facing inward. Then, do EVERYTHING YOU JUST DID IN REVERSE ORDER. Put LCD in, put back the 6 screws. At the top, slide in ribbon cable 3 into its port and flip the tab downwards to hold it. Pop on pin 2 (which was unlabeled on my part), and then pin 1. The black plastic-y tabs can be squashed and folded to collapse better when you're trying to seal up the phone -- look at your old screen assembly for guidance. When trying to put the two halves of the phone back together, get things properly seated up at the top (there are two guiding tabs), and then snap it together down at the bottom where you'll then put back in the two long screws. Peel off the plastic screen protectors, and then put the SIM card back in. Promptly purchase a screen protector and an impact-resistant case.

Good luck, and hope this helps. My phone fired right back up, and there were no problems with the display or the touchscreen function.

4Pretty easy replacement  Jan 10, 2011 By Turtle353
The screen was pretty easy to replace and took about thirty minutes. I had to open it back up to get the connections firmly set. When I did the glass separated from the frame :(. This is definitely not OEM parts but I was looking for a cheap fix and understood they weren't. Like other reviewers mentioned the glass does not have the special coating, home button is not as crisp, and the proximity sensor is not included. If these are concerns of yours then this may not be the best option. My wife's phone works and she is fine with these issues since we're waiting on the iPhone 5. The kit did come with the tools and these worked well. Happy fixing!

***Added fourth star due to the proximity sensor actually working. Still very happy with replacement.
